Graphics chip behemoth Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) seems poised for a period of “massive growth” over the next 3-5 years, according to a new analyst report from Loop Capital. The financial services firm initiated coverage of Nvidia stock with an upbeat call, slapping a street-high $1,200 price target on the company.
Driving Loop’s rosy forecast is an expected explosion in IT infrastructure spending by hyperscale data center operators and Fortune 1000 companies alike as artificial intelligence, especially generative AI models like ChatGPT, moves into the mainstream. Loop notes that Nvidia finds itself at the epicenter of this AI-fueled investment surge.
Specifically, analysts predict hyperscalers such as Amazon, Google and Microsoft will dramatically shift their compute mix towards graphics processing units (GPUs) like Nvidia’s flagship offerings to power their AI workloads. Where GPUs account for just 10–15% of data center compute today, Loop sees that figure reaching 50–60% over the next few years.
Likewise, Fortune 1000 companies are expected to rapidly move more enterprise data and applications into the cloud to take advantage of AI capabilities. Loop said based on its checks, these corporations plan to shift 60–80% of their infrastructure to cloud platforms in the coming years, compared to previous targets of 30–40%.
“This is coming from the [Fortune 1000] realization that they need to move more data into the cloud to not only take advantage of Gen AI but to be able to run the key applications of the future,” analysts said.
With Nvidia dominant in supplying GPUs for AI acceleration, Loop argues the company is primed for “massive growth” as this AI transformation fuels a historic surge in infrastructure spending over the next 2–3 years.Loop set a bull case price target on NVDA stock of $1,600.
